Eric García: The Barça wildcard that could change clubs
The Catalan defender has seen his value soar this season, becoming a key player for Hansi Flick, although his future remains uncertain.

The 2024-25 season has been a true rebirth for Eric García, the young defender of FC Barcelona who has managed to carve out a niche in the team's complicated defensive setup. Despite starting the season with an unclear role and fierce competition in the backline, the Martorell native has proven to be a true wildcard for coach Hansi Flick.

With up to four players ahead of him in the defensive line, such as Iñigo Martínez, Pau Cubarsí, Ronald Araujo, and Andreas Christensen, expectations for García were low. However, Flick saw potential in him that led him to halt his departure on several occasions, both in the summer market and in the winter window, when his name was linked to several clubs, including Gerona.

The coach's decision has proven to be a resounding success. Eric has played in multiple positions, including center-back, pivot, and full-back, and has performed remarkably well in each. So far, he has accumulated four goals and two assists in 41 matches, figures that have reignited the debate about his importance to the team.

Despite his growth and versatility, Eric García's future at FC Barcelona is uncertain. Although his adaptability makes him a valuable asset, he is not among the club's untouchables. This means that if an attractive offer comes in, Barça could consider it, especially in a context where several departures are expected to balance the books.

Como's interest: Is a departure imminent?

One of the clubs that has shown interest in the defender is Como, managed by former Barça player Cesc Fàbregas. In a recent press conference, Fàbregas confirmed his interest in García, describing him as a versatile player and a leader on the field. However, the Spanish coach also admitted that it would be complicated to lure the player away from Barcelona, stating that "he will stay at Barcelona".

With a current market value estimated at 15 million euros, according to Transfermarkt, Eric García's future hangs in the balance. Will Barça receive convincing offers? Is the club willing to part with such a versatile player? Time will tell, but what is undeniable is that Eric has earned his place in the team through hard work and talent.
