Barça Closes Season with Victory at San Mamés and Historic Treble
FC Barcelona bids farewell to the 2024/25 La Liga season with a resounding victory over Athletic Club, reaffirming their dominance in Spanish football.

The FC Barcelona has capped off an unforgettable season by defeating Athletic Club 0-3 at San Mamés, in the final match of the 2024/25 La Liga EA Sports. This victory not only consolidates the success of the Catalan team, who were crowned league champions two matchdays ago, but also allows them to close the season with a national treble that includes the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa de España.

From the outset, Barça demonstrated their intent to dominate the game. Despite Athletic starting strong, even having a goal disallowed in the 5th minute, the culés quickly responded. Robert Lewandowski, a key figure throughout the season, opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a brilliant pass from Pedri. This goal not only marked it 0-1 but also represented the 100th goal for Barça in the league, a milestone not reached since the 2016-17 season.

The second goal came from a corner, where Lewandowski was again the protagonist, capitalizing on a mistake from local defender Unai Gómez to score 0-2. With this goal, the Polish striker also reached his century of goals as a Barcelona player, underscoring his importance to the team.

Athletic, although trying to react, found themselves up against a solid Barça defense and a Marc-André ter Stegen in top form. Despite their efforts, the Basques could not convert their chances, and Barça continued to dominate the match.

In stoppage time, Dani Olmo sealed the victory with a penalty after a foul by Yuri Berchiche. This goal not only closed the score at 0-3 but also made it clear that Barça has been the best away team in the five major European leagues, accumulating a total of 42 points in 18 matches.

An Emotional Farewell

The match was also significant for Athletic, who bid farewell to their captain Óscar de Marcos, playing his last match as a professional. The Bilbao fans paid tribute to him, recalling his journey with the club.

With this victory, Barça not only ends the season on a high note but also makes it clear that the future looks promising. With most of their stars secured for the upcoming campaign, Hansi Flick's team is preparing to continue reaping successes and maintain their status as one of the giants of European football.

Culé fans can be satisfied, as the team has shown attractive and effective play, and with the arrival of new talents from the Masía, the future seems even brighter. ¡Força Barça!
