Fermín López, one of the most promising players of FC Barcelona, has made a decision that reflects his maturity and commitment to his health. The midfielder has chosen not to participate in the upcoming U21 Euro, which will be held in Slovakia, to start pre-season with the Catalan club from day one.
In an interview with SPORT, López explained that his decision was not easy, but necessary: "I have been without a break for almost two years, and I need to listen to my body. I was excited at first, but in the end, we all agreed. I spoke with Santi Denia, and he understood perfectly." This reflection shows the responsibility the young player takes in his career, prioritizing his physical well-being after a demanding summer that included the Euro in Germany and the Olympic gold medal.
The midfielder, who has been key to Barça's success, feels ready to face new challenges with the senior national team. "I am very happy to be back; it is every player's dream to be here and play in the Nations League. I hope to help the team if needed. Another title wouldn't be bad; we have a great team, and I hope we can achieve it," he commented enthusiastically.
In the 2024/25 season, Fermín López has proven his worth on the field, participating in 46 matches and contributing 8 goals and 10 assists. His performance has been crucial for Barça to achieve the national treble, and he aims to maintain this level of competition in the future. "At Barça, there will always be competition; it is the best club in the world, and the best will be there. I have tried to get as many minutes as possible; the coach has given me confidence, and I have done my best. Next year will be tougher," he added.
Additionally, the young footballer did not hold back in praising his national teammate, Joan García, regarding his potential signing for Barça. "You have seen in the league that he is a great goalkeeper and a very good teammate. I didn't know him before; I had never met him, and I maintained a good relationship with him. He is a good goalkeeper and a great person," he concluded.
With an eye on the future, Fermín López prepares to face new challenges, both at Barça and with the national team, demonstrating that his commitment and professionalism are his best calling card.
