FC Barcelona Strengthens Physical Approach Under Hansi Flick
With Hansi Flick's arrival, FC Barcelona has renewed its focus on player physical preparation and recovery, aiming to optimize performance and minimize injuries.

Since Hansi Flick took over at FC Barcelona, the club has made a significant shift in its approach to physical preparation for its players. The German coach, known for his intense and dynamic playing style, has implemented a rigorous program aimed not only at improving performance but also at preventing injuries that have plagued several players in previous seasons.

The coaching staff, led by Julio Tous, head of physical preparation, has established a series of measures that are fundamental to achieving these goals. Among the most notable strategies are:

  1. Nutrition and recovery
  2. Weight control and medical check-ups
  3. Sleep monitoring
  4. Personalized rest

These initiatives are designed to optimize endurance, increase muscle mass, and reduce accumulated fatigue, which in turn decreases the risk of injuries. A clear example of the success of this approach is the case of Pedri González, who, after a history of injuries, managed to complete the 2024/25 season without any physical setbacks, participating in 59 of the 60 possible matches and accumulating a total of 4,646 minutes on the field.

The 'Pedri Case': A Model to Follow

The Canary Islands midfielder has become a reference in the club's new working methodology. Thanks to a thorough muscular analysis, a personalized routine was designed that allowed him to avoid injuries and maximize his performance. This success has led the coaching staff to consider a similar approach for other players with injury histories.

Dani Olmo and Ronald Araujo: Next on the List

Sporting director Deco has confirmed that both Dani Olmo and Ronald Araujo are under consideration for a specialized physical plan. Olmo, who has struggled with multiple injuries since joining Barça, missed 15 matches last season due to muscular issues. Despite this, he managed to score 12 goals and provide seven assists in 39 appearances.

Meanwhile, Araujo, known for his defensive solidity, has also had a challenging year, participating in only 25 matches due to a hamstring tendon injury. The coaching staff's intention is to apply the same successful approach used with Pedri to help these players reach their maximum potential.

FC Barcelona is not only focusing on new signings but also aims to maximize the performance of its current squad. With an eye on the 2025/26 season, the club is determined to implement a physical plan that allows its players to avoid injuries and perform at the highest level.
