Marc Bernal discusses Nico Williams' decision and his return to Barça
Young FC Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal spoke about Nico Williams' recent renewal with Athletic Club while preparing for his return after a long injury.

At a recent event in Berga, FC Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal shared his thoughts on Nico Williams' decision to renew with Athletic Club. The news has caused a stir in the culé environment, but Bernal chose to downplay the situation, emphasizing that each player must make decisions they believe are best for their career.

After participating in activities with young footballers, Bernal addressed the media and, of course, could not avoid being questioned about Williams' future. “Everyone has their own path and reasons,” the player commented, who is currently in a recovery process after a serious injury that kept him off the pitch for almost an entire season.

Last season was a true challenge for Bernal, who suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a match against Rayo Vallecano. “Mentally it destroys you. It's spending months in which what you think and how you stress your mind is crazy. It's very difficult; you want to do things you can't,” confessed the 18-year-old, reflecting the internal struggle he faced during his recovery.

However, the 2025/26 season presents a new opportunity for the talented midfielder. “In principle, I will be training; I don't know about playing,” he added, hinting at his desire to return to compete at the highest level. Despite the adversities, Bernal has begun training at the Ciutat Esportiva under a specific plan designed by the club's physical trainers.

The support from his teammates has been crucial during this process. “The ones who help you the most are friends and family. Also my psychologist, whom I've been seeing for years, and the physio; I spend more hours with him than with my family,” Bernal expressed, highlighting the importance of the environment during difficult times.

The coaching staff at FC Barcelona, led by Hansi Flick, has positively assessed Bernal's potential, who, had it not been for his injury, could have been a regular in the starting eleven. “I am ready to give my best and show that I can be an important part of the team,” concluded the midfielder, who eagerly awaits his return to competition.
